Linear actuation for compressors August 1st 2009 Howden Donkin integrally geared
turbo compressors come with a
choice of control systems to provide
infinitely variable air flow in
combination with a simple constant
speed motor. All rely on the effective
actuation of two sets of vanes that
influence the air flow into the
compressor according to process
performance. This is an operation
that requires high forces at slow
speeds and the Mini range of
actuators, from Framo Morat were
selected for the job.
Three types of controls feature the
Framo Morat Mini actuator. On the
inlet guide vane control assembly it
adjusts the stainless steel guide vanes
around the bore of the inlet branch
to pre-rotate air before it enters the
impeller. On the variable diffuser
vane control assembly, the linear
actuator controls the movement of
stainless steel aerofoil vanes. The
combined control enhances the
advantages of both the IGV and
VVD options. Six models in the
Framo Morat Mini range are
supplied by R. A. Rodriguez. More articles from R A Rodriguez UK Ltd: |
