Quick gearbox solution
May 1st 2010

When an Irish company in Donegal discovered a problem with its wind turbine gearbox, Hansen Transmissions in the UK were quick to react. Hansen was called in to inspect the gearbox inside the nacelle. The engineer diagnosed the problem and recommended that tooling be made specifically in order to change the bearing without having to remove the gearbox.

Hansen Transmissions are accredited to the BSI OHSAS 18001:2007 safety standard. All their service engineers are trained to work at heights and are trained to the IOSH managing safely standards.

Following the report, a risk assessment and method statement was prepared prior to the return visit. The gearbox fault was rectified in a very short space of time, with limited inconvenience.
